R.A.R.E. Experience and Methods

8 03 2007

Scripture:
Deuteronomy 7:25,26 (NIV) 25 The images of their gods you are to burn in the fire. Do not covet the silver and gold on them, and do not take it for yourselves, or you will be ensnared by it, for it is detestable to the LORD your God. 26 Do not bring a detestable thing into your house or you, like it, will be set apart for destruction. Utterly abhor and detest it, for it is set apart for destruction.

Deuteronomy 9:6 (NIV)6 Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people.

Observations:
Here is a good example of God not telling us why — but rather, just do it. The maturity level of His people were not able to fully comprehend the ramifications of their actions here. Also, they weren’t really entering the promised land yet — Moses is just casting the vision and preparing them for the time.

Then He reminds them of the Gospel — “remember, it isn’t you — it is Me that is getting you into the promised land.”

Application:
1. Get rid of all the things in my house that don’t glorify God. Get rid of the detestable things.
2. God will get Common Ground, my family, and me into the promised land — it isn’t by my might or my power.
a. If CG is going to move downtown, it will have to be with God!
b. It isn’t too late to make the switch — with relevant preaching, willing disciples — we can make it.

Prayer:
Lord, is this it? Are we going to do it? Is it getting rid of the idealism and denial that is going to get us there?

“While seeking a real, authentic, relevant, and experimental experience with God we will take His unconditional love and incredible grace to the broken people of Colorado Springs – through real, authentic, relevant, and experimental methods.”

Yah – hoo go for it. Be creative, think outside the box, and get alongside the broken people of CS, in a real loving non religious way, building bridges with them where they are at, and not trying to build it where we are at

Blessings Gary,
