Just Stand There

Scripture:
Ecclesiastes 4:6 (NIV) Better one handful with tranquility than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind.

Ecclesiastes 5:2,7 (NIV) 2Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.

7 Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore stand in awe of God.

Observations:
Learning to “rest in Him” is a challenge and it stresses me out.  Ha!  That was a joke! (

I grew up with the attitude, “Do something, even if it is wrong!”  Or, “Don’t just stand there, do something!”  but in the last several years, God has been teaching me to “Don’t just do something, stand there.”

My efforts are like chasing the wind.  My words are meaningless.  I need to stand before God, in awe.

Application:
Planting a church is an awesome experience.  But it is hard work and stressful.  I am learning that I need to spend more time in prayer and less time chasing the wind.

Prayer:
Father God, thank you for last night’s leadership meeting.  Thank you for the people involved.  Thank you for all their energy, hard work, and willingness to do the right thing.  Thank you for the work you are doing in this church.

Amen and Amen – gw
