1 Samuel 8:19-22 (NIV)  19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.”

21 When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the LORD. 22 The LORD answered, “Listen to them and give them a king.”

2 Corinthians 10:8 (NIV) 8For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.

Israel cries out for a king and God agrees to give them a King.  Saul is appointed by God, through Samuel.  It is interesting to note that even though God doesn’t want to give them a king, He does take an intimate involvement in the process of selection.

God works with us and meets us where we are.

Father God, teach me to work with people where they are.
