Faith Signs

Scripture:
Judges 6:39-40 (NIV)  39 Then Gideon said to God, “Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request. Allow me one more test with the fleece. This time make the fleece dry and the ground covered with dew.” 40 That night God did so. Only the fleece was dry; all the ground was covered with dew.

Observations:
God is clearly calling Gideon to do some amazing things for Him.  However, Gideon seems slow to react – like I often am.  So, he asks for signs.  As I read this – seeing the end, I have trouble empathizing with Gideon.  “Can’t you see God is in this,” I say.  “Get up, take the people, and do what God is asking.”

But Gideon doesn’t have the ability to read his own story; just like I don’t have the ability to read my own story.  So, he asks for signs.

Many people read this story (or remember this story) and it gives them “permission” to ask for signs.  I tend to take another approach.  I say, only ask for signs when your faith is weak.

Application:
I want/need to charge forward – acting out in faith, even when I don’t see the results.  How can I “feel” the assurance, without the signs?

Prayer:
Dear God, I am tired, and my faith is weak.  Pump me up as I surrender to you today.  I need to rely on you more, and on my less.

Thanks God, gw
