Obedience

Scripture:
James 4:1-3 (NIV)  1What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? 2You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. 3When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

James 2:10 (NIV) 10For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

1 Peter 1:13 (NIV) 13Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 14As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

1 Peter 2:25 (NIV) 25For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Observations:
I am still reminded that discipleship is a process from the inside out.  It isn’t what is on the outside that makes a person clean – it is what is going on inside of people.  However, what happens outside, as indicated in the texts above, are often indicators of what is happening in a person’s heart and soul.

Application:
I need to continue to walk closely with the Lord, be open to wherever He leads me and to obey.

Prayer:
Father God – teach me to obey.

Amen.
